Sankyo Automation has many different cam actuated positioning mechanisms to fit a wide variety of applications. Sankyo’s standard cam mechanism is a roller gear cam (globoidal cam) that has many advantages compared to competing cam mechanisms such as barrel cams. The roller gear cam mechanism is a preloaded zero-backlash mechanism that comes in a right-angle configuration. It is renowned for its positioning accuracy and smooth dynamic performance.

Pick & Place Units
Linear Pick & Place / Walking Beam
Sankyo has a number of models that are suitable for pick and place, part handling, or walking beam applications. They use their roller gear cam (globoidal cam) technology and mechanical linkages to turn the rotary motion of the input shaft into linear motion in two directions. The cams are machined specific to the application, resulting in tremendous positioning accuracy and low cycle times. The units provide relatively long strokes for their housing size, and are ideal for integration into automated assembly machines and other light payload handling applications.

Rotary Pick & Place
Sankyo’s rotary pick and place units (or part handlers) provide one rotary axis and one linear axis. Relatively long strokes can be achieved in a small package by attaching an arm with sufficient radius to the rotary axis. The rotary axis features Sankyo’s roller gear cam technology. The linear motion is achieved using a groove cam and linkage. As with all Sankyo products, the units provide excellent accuracy and speed for rotary pick and place applications.

The Sankyo torque limiter is a safety device designed to protect mechanical equipment from accidental overloads. When an excessive torque load occurs, the torque limiter trips and shuts off the transmission of torque to protect the machine. Sankyo’s design follows the separation principle, commonly regarded as the most reliable principle available. The tripping torque mechanism is based on the mechanical transmission of torque formed by a ball and a ball pocket, or roller and roller pocket combination. This mechanism ensures accurate torque shut-off and easy trip-point adjustment without degrading performance of the equipment to which it is installed. The torque limiter device resets to its original location with minimal loss in accuracy. The torque limiter trip torque point is easily adjustable using hand tools. It also features a detection plate which allows monitoring using a proximity sensor. Upon an overload event, the machine can be quickly stopped to prevent damage to the power transmission mechanism and other equipment.
